kiln opening tonight
here it is after it has been fired and has cooled down. About 32-34 hours later.
another long day
Well I think we are semi-caught up. Did not get any photos but this one of the glaze load before firing
the weird and strange centerpiece bowl thingy
as promised here is a photo of the “weird and strange centerpiece bowl thingy in the kiln in our last post. This started out about three years ago as a Halloween centerpiece/whimsical candy dish…or at least that was my plan. the starting item (from our slip molds) was a oval serving bowl with two added hands (from a ring or glove hand mold in our collection of slip molds) and a bowl (latte bowl mold) then all pieces were fused together with slip acts like welded joint, while they are still wet and formed into? (a work of art hehehe). When we did this I pictured a goully gory red centerpiece with the neighborhood type haunted house skinned grapes (eyeballs) and the cold spaghetti (brains) embellishments. Luckily my mom and sister had better plans and this is the result.
In kiln today
today was a busy shipping day but managed to get a photo of our glaze kiln load today as it cooled down enough to be opened this morning. In the photo we have some “mad Splatter” items again. Some child’s mini tea set items. A large martini bowl. A dispenser. A dear Santa heart plate and a “living the dream” special wedding platter.
First look, a glance inside kiln.
well I thought I’d show you what came out of the glaze firing this morning when the kiln was cool enough to open. Of course we have a snoware item there but we also have the first glimpse of the “mad splatter” line. Couple of deep heart bowls, the huge martini bowl, and the weird and strange centerpiece bowl thingy. I’ve yet to come up with a clever name for that unique piece of art. We will have a complete post on it (top right with the hands holding up bowl) soon. It is always fun to get a glimpse of the kiln we we open up the final firing and thought we would share some of the first views with everyone.
