Two more items that have been slip cast. At this point the pieces are called greenware .
Greenware is is very fragile at this point. They will be cleaned and smoothed and painted then fired.
We fire our first firing a 03 about 1960 to 1988 Fahrenheit. Then they will be glazed and fired for the second time.
Unlike the method I used here, the cake pedestal on the left will be first done in two pieces and joined in the second firing with glaze.
The reason for this is this is a thicker top and has a tendancy to crack in the last firing when pre-joined.
The coco pot on the right is drying with the lid in. Without the lid it has a tendancy to shrink to much for the lid to fit properly later.
