One of our methods of making a ceramic piece is using our hydraulic press. Rather than pouring a slip (liquid clay) mold and waiting a day and pulling it from the mold we have press molds. Our press is hydraulic and it basically uses at lot of force to squish (press) a plate or shape from a slab of clay. Only certain shapes can be pressed, like a bowl or plate and we have to be fortunate enough to have the mold also. So to give a mini tour of the process we will be making a star plate.
